TIME WITH INSPIRE: The Freedom of Coming Clean.

1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

1 John 1:9 is one of the most foundational verses in the New Testament regarding the believer’s relationship with God. It serves as both a gentle invitation and a profound promise.

We all know the burden of a secret. When we harbor unconfessed sin, it creates a barrier in our relationship with God. It make us feel distant, ashamed, and weighed down. 1 John 1:9 is God’s invitation to drop that burden.

On this verse, it is helpful to break it down into three key movements:

I.  The Act of Honesty (Confession)

Confession is the antidote to the "darkness" mentioned earlier in 1 John 1. It is not about informing God of something He doesn't already know; it is about our hearts finally aligning with His. It requires moving from "I’m sorry if I offended anyone" to "Lord, I sinned against You.

II. The Ground of Our Hope (His Character)

We don't confess because we hope God might be in a good mood; we confess because of who He is. He is faithful to His promise, and He is just because Jesus already paid our bill. We are not begging for scraps of mercy; we are approaching the throne of grace to receive what was purchased for us at a great price.

III.Restored Fellowship (Cleansing)

The goal of 1 John 1:9 isn't just to "get off the hook." It is to be cleansed. God doesn't just want to forgive the act; He wants to wash our conscience so that we can walk in the freedom of His light once again.

In conclusion let us walk in the Light

Don't let the sun go down on unconfessed sin. Whether you are struggling with a besetting habit or a momentary lapse in judgment, know that the door to God’s heart is always open through the finished work of Jesus. Come, be honest with Him, and experience the lightness of being fully forgiven.

God bless you.

A word of Prayer

Father, I confess my sins before You today.

Thank You for Your promise of cleansing.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
